LOGM 233 - Reliability Maintainability & Availability (RM&A) in Logistics PROGRAM: Supply Chain Management CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2021
Introduces the student to the concepts of Reliability and Maintainability of systems and Systems of Systems (SoS) across the product life cycle. Topics include the introduction to variability and uncertainty within the operation of a real world system and mathematical approaches to quantify them, definition of system reliability and maintainability, design for reliability and maintainability, the role of test and evaluation to validate design performance, and the impact of reliability and maintainability to the readiness and sustainment of a system across its lifecycle. Commercial computer software tools will be used to present basic analyses and the relationship of R&M to other logistic considerations when optimizing lifecycle support and sustainment.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to be able to:
- Explain the concepts of system reliability, maintainability, and availability.
- Compare types of variability that affect system RMA performance and describe mathematical approaches to address them.
- Distinguish the basic concepts and characteristics of reliability and maintainability and explain how they are managed across a system’s life cycle.
- Define the definition and management of R&M requirements within system design.
- Explain the central concepts of test and evaluation and its role in verifying system design requirements.
- Apply techniques and methods to model system R&M in terms of a Reliability Block Diagram (RBD).
- Apply techniques and methods to model system Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) using commercial software tools.
- Apply techniques and methods to model a supply chain and optimize material stock to maximize readiness.
