Course Description: An introduction to the concepts and approaches to time-based, 4D media. Students will be introduced to tools, materials and processes that will enable them to develop basic competencies in producing and using image, sound and text for a variety of narrative purposes. Topics such as image and meaning, sound and time, image sequencing and the moving image will be covered.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Major Course Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to: 

  1. Build aesthetic, conceptual, and technical skills for the creation of time-based works of art 
  1. Apply elements and principles of design to time-based media 
  1. Learn basics of editing video imagery, still images and sound into time-based works 
  1. Document creative output in an appropriate format 
  1. Generate and develop ideas and concepts from observation, personal reflection and research topics related to the concept and content of assigned projects 
  1. Develop a formal and critical vocabulary for discussing and critiquing works of time-based media 
  1. Explore historical and contemporary relationships and content regarding video art
