This course covers the second half of NCCER Plumbing Level 2. Its modules cover topics such as installing and testing water supply piping, types of valves, installing fixtures and valves, installing water heaters, basic electricity, and fuel gas and oil systems. The NCCER Plumbing Level 2 certificate and wallet card will also be awarded upon successful completion of this course.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the proper techniques for locating, installing, and testing complete water service and distribution systems, including meters, water heaters, water softeners, and hose bibbs.  Recognize basic backflow and water hammer prevention methods, and discuss the installation of shower and tub valves, ice maker and washing machine boxes, and pipe stub outs and supports.

2. Compare types of valves, their components, and applications. Demonstrate methods for servicing valves.

3. Describe the installation of basic plumbing fixtures, including bathtubs, shower stalls, lavatories, sinks, water closets, and urinals. Review the installation of associated valves, faucets, and components. Demonstrate how to connect appliances such as dishwashers, food-waste disposers, refrigerators, and ice makers, and washing machines.

4. Discuss gas-fired, electric, tankless, heat pump, and indirect water heaters, components, and applications. Explain proper installation and testing techniques and covers the latest code requirements for water heaters.

5. Describe electrical safety and the principles of electricity including voltage, current, resistance, and power. Recall important electrical formulas, circuitry, and common plumbing-related electrical applications.

6. Demonstrate techniques for safe handling of natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, and fuel oil. Describe fuel gas and fuel oil safety precautions and potential hazards, applications, systems installation, and testing.

7. Attain readiness to take the second half of NCCER Plumbing Level 2 certification exams.

GRADING POLICY
Students must score 70 percent or higher on all module examinations to receive recognition from NCCER. Students must also complete each performance task to the satisfaction of the instructor to receive recognition from NCCER. If either of the above requirements are not met the student will forfeit NCCER certification and will receive a one letter grade reduction for the class.
