This course covers the first half of NCCER Plumbing Level 4. Its modules cover topics such as business principles for plumbers, fundamentals of crew leadership, indirect and special waste, hydronic and solar heating systems, swimming pools and hot tubs. The NCCER Plumbing Level 4 certificate and wallet card will not be awarded until the student successfully completes both this course and BCTI 254.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Explain concepts and practices that are essential for competitive, successful plumbing businesses. Apply basic business accounting and project estimating principles, as well as techniques for cost control and task organization.
2. Demonstrate basic leadership skills and define different leadership styles, communication, delegating, and problem solving. Describe jobsite safety concerns and the crew leader’s role in safety, as well as project planning, scheduling, and estimating. Complete performance tasks to assist the learning process.
3. Describe the code requirements and installation procedures for systems that protect against contamination from indirect and special waste.
4. Describe the basic types of hydronic and solar heating systems and their components. Illustrate hydronic and solar heating system layout. Describe installation, testing, and balancing techniques , and also discuss methods that inhibit corrosion in hydronic or solar heating systems.
5. Describe the plumbing systems in swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas.
6. Attain readiness to take the first half of NCCER Plumbing Level 4 certification exams.

GRADING POLICY
Students must score 70 percent or higher on all module examinations to receive recognition from NCCER. Students must also complete each performance task to the satisfaction of the instructor to receive recognition from NCCER. If either of the above requirements are not met the student will forfeit NCCER certification and will receive a one letter grade reduction for the class.
