This course introduces the students to current applications and technology used in the construction field. Software and computer programs will be studied along with basic computer applications. Students will also learn basic Windows operating system concepts, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and research/ communication tools.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the broader uses of computers in industry, commerce, and personal applications.
- Use word processing software to create and edit text; save and retrieve a document; format, edit, and print a document.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the internet for research and computer applications used within industry.
- Use spreadsheet software to create, save and print a worksheet.
- Perform basic editing functions, and create graphs using spreadsheet software.
- Use presentation software to create and edit a presentation.
- Use scheduling software to create, set-up, and save a schedule.
- Appraise the use of smartphones, tablets and other mobile technologies used in the construction industry.
