This course is designed to prepare participants with the basic knowledge of the various types of rigging and signaling training needed to meet the minimum OSHA requirements. The course content provides an overview of equipment and inspections and procedures for rigging various materials and equipment. Safety hazards and safety practices in rigging are emphasized throughout the course.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Recall terms defined by 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC.
- Comprehend the corresponding Subpart CC signaling requirements within the standard.
- List and/or demonstrate the four types of crane signals.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of crane dynamics, boom deflection, and crane operation and limitations.
- Recognize power line hazards while working around cranes.
- Understand and be able to apply OSHA’s minimum clearance distance for cranes working near power lines.
- Employ fundamental skills critical to safe rigging and material handling.
- Express familiarization with related OSHA standards for rigging and safety.
- Exhibit principles of safe rigging, inspection, calculating loads and configurations, understanding the weight of common materials.
