DMSI 123 - Ultrasound Physics II PREREQUISITES: DMSI 112 PROGRAM: Diagnostic Medical Sonography CREDIT HOURS MIN: 1.5 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1.5 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 1.5 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2022
This course will continue in the basic principles in soundwaves used in diagnostic medical sonography from DMSI 112 Physics I. Pulsed ultrasound principles and the components used in sonography as well as changes that occur as the sound waves propagate are discussed. The construction of transducers will be covered. The changes in materials of transducers and the effects the changes have on imaging will be explained.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the components of soundwaves used in diagnostic ultrasound.
2. Understand how changes in pulses will alter images.
3. Identify and understand components of the ultrasound transducer.
4. Define the role of parts of the transducer in the process of image production.
COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include - Pulsed ultrasound principles
Image changes related to ultrasound pulses
Transducer components
Image production related to the transducer
