DMSI 127 - Ultrasound Physics III

PREREQUISITES: DMSI 123
PROGRAM: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
CREDIT HOURS MIN: 2
LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2
TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 2
DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2022

In this course the production of images used in diagnostic medical sonography will be covered. Steps of image formation from the initial electrical input to image formation will be discussed. The breakdown of each component and how each part effects the ultrasound image will be defined. Doppler principles and Doppler application in medical sonography will be covered. Forms of Doppler as well as optimization of Doppler controls will be explained.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1.  Describe the components of the ultrasound machine.

2.  List the steps the soundwave and then electrical wave will go through in the production of images.

3.  Define each component of the process of image formation and how changes in any component will alter the sonographic image.

4.  Understand principles of Doppler and the uses in sonography.

5.  Develop understanding of Doppler controls related to image optimization.

COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include - Image production components
