This is the final course in ultrasound physics and principles. In this course, sonographic artifacts will be discussed. The conditions that will produce artifacts and how to prevent or correct them will be covered. Ultrasound bioeffects and quality improvement processes used in diagnostic sonography will be discussed. Basic statistics and formulas used in quality improvement programs will be applied and practiced. With the information of bioeffects and quality testing, complete realization of the prudent use of sonography should be understood by the end of this course.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the assumptions that are broken to produce artifacts.
2. Define helpful and destructive ultrasound artifacts.
3. List the ways to correct or avoid some ultrasound artifact production.
4. Define methods and processes used in a sonography department’s quality improvement program.
5. Solve basic statistic problems with formulas used in sonography quality improvement programs.
6. Understand the relationship of bioeffects to soundwave intensities and power.
7. Develop understanding of prudent use of diagnostic medical sonography in relation to bioeffects and the patient, and equipment for needed examinations.
