This course introduces the principles of electrocardiography. The interpretations of waveforms are discussed and analyzed. Pathological processes and waveform alteration are covered and identified. Testing methods based on waveforms and hemodynamic principles are covered as well as the use of Holter monitors.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand the principles of electrocardiography and electrophysiology.
2. Describe the uses and principles of a cardiac respirogram.
3. Understand and identify the uses of a Holter monitor.
4. Demonstrate normal lead placement for obtaining EKG waveforms.
5. Demonstrate ability to identify normal EKG tracings.
6. Describe conduction abnormalities and the pathophysiologic effects on the EKG tracing.
7. Demonstrate ability to identify critical EKG tracings.
