This course will build upon the examinations of the arterial system. There will be a study of the upper and lower peripheral arterial system using methods of segmental pressures, plethysmography and as well as testing for certain pathologic conditions. Alternate and supplemental imaging processes are discussed. Terminology for the arterial vascular system and exam reporting will be covered.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe and understand upper and lower arterial segmental pressures and plethysmographic examinations.
2. Describe and understand pathology and pathophysiology of upper and lower extremity arterial examinations using segmental pressures and plethysmography.
3. Describe and understand the protocol for specialized testing for thoracic outlet testing and palmar arch patency.
4. Understand the normal and pathologic waveforms of the upper and lower arterial systems using segmental pressures and plethysmography.
5. Explain alternate imaging for the arterial system and limitations of this imaging.
6. Define the sonographer’s responsibility in testing and physician reporting.
