Studies will include the upper and lower peripheral venous systems and the abdominal vascular system. These studies will include anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of these systems. Hemodialysis graft analysis will also be defined and explained. Venous insufficiency causes, testing, and treatment options will be discussed. Alternate imaging methods and testing will be discussed. Medication usage and effects in the therapeutic patient state will be explained.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe anatomy of the venous systems of the upper and lower extremities.
2. Describe pathology and physiology of the venous system of the extremities.
3. Describe normal and pathological waveforms in the venous system.
4. Explain the venous scanning protocol.
5. Differentiate and explain the different methods used in the diagnosis of venous insufficiency.
6. Understand the treatment options for venous disease.
7. Describe the anatomy and function of hemodialysis grafts.
8. Summarize and explain the process of hemodialysis graft analysis.
9. Describe normal waveforms of hemodialysis grafts.
10. Define the hemodynamic effects of graft immaturity or failure.
11. Define vascular imaging alternative processes and the limitations of the exams.
12. Describe medications used most commonly in patients with vascular diseases.
