DMSI 161 - Vascular Sonography VI and Clinical Orientation Lab VI PREREQUISITES: DMSI 159 PROGRAM: Diagnostic Medical Sonography CREDIT HOURS MIN: 2 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1 LAB HOURS MIN: 1.5 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 2.5 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2022
This course will cover the abdominal vascular system. The anatomy and physiology of the major organ systems will be discussed. Testing procedures for the renal, mesenteric, hepatoportal, and aortic systems will be covered. Waveform analysis in both the normal and abnormal vascular states will be discussed. Endografts and treatments of the abdominal vascular system will be covered. Contrast media and vascular applications will be explained. Alternate modality use and limitations for the abdominal vascular system will be covered.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the abdominal vascular system anatomy.
2. Distinguish normal and abnormal waveforms of the abdominal vascular system.
3. Understand the pathophysiologic effects of pathology in the abdominal vascular system.
4. Define the scanning protocols of the abdominal vascular system.
5. Summarize the treatments for abdominal vascular pathology.
6. Characterize the uses, limitation and contraindications of vascular contrast.
7. Explain alternate imaging modalities and limitations used in testing of the abdominal vascular system.
8. Define the sonographer’s role in exam communication with the physician.
