DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2022

This course will describe basic ultrasound physics to include fundamental principles of ultrasound principles. The concepts of mathematical relationships applied in sonography principles, mechanical soundwaves, frequency, wavelength, and propagation speed will be covered. The processes involved in attenuation of sound waves in different materials and concepts such as refraction will be covered.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Describe and understand principles of relational math.

Define properties of soundwaves in relation to mechanical wave energy.

Understand basic waveform components.

Explain attenuation and the process of occurrence as the sound wave propagates through mediums.

Recognize the differences in sound propagation and interaction with mediums.

COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include - Relational math

Mechanical waves

Sound wave properties

Sound wave attenuation
