Covers major theories and patterns of aging in American society. Covers social institutions and cultural factors that affect the aging process.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Define aging and explain the aging process.
- Describe and explain the major theories of aging as a social process.
- Examine the myths of aging.
- Describe the social patterns and levels of aging.
- Identify and discuss social problems of aging including housing, transportation, Health care, and family relationships.
- Identify and describe the available social institutions concerned with aging.
- Identify and describe cultural determinants that affect aging.
- Identify and describe work and retirement determinants that affect aging.
- Identify and describe environmental determinants that affect aging.
- Define and describe successful aging.
