This course introduces an overview of managing Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) facilities.  The efficient operation of hydroponic and various aquaculture systems is a goal of the course. Analysis of facility selection, location, and design will be completed.  Structural components with regard to electrical power, lights and lighting, heating, cooling, ventilation, and watering will be explained.  Common processing facilities issues related to production and people management will be discussed.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Describe the types of Integrated Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Facilities.
  2. Recognize the unique management needs of controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facilities.
  3. Outline system  components of a CEA facility and the interaction between those components.
  4. Describe building code applications and site specifications for new and existing construction.
  5. Demonstrate basic construction and maintenance skills utilized in CEA facilities.
  6. Describe the need for and importance of sanitary design principles related to food safety.
  7. Utilize and interpret operations and maintenance manuals.
  8. Design a routine maintenance checklist for the CEA facility.
