ENTR 110 - Entrepreneurial Pursuits

This introductory entrepreneurship course guides students through various aspects of the entrepreneurial journey, including the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial mindset, identifying the qualities of a successful entrepreneur, self-assessing their entrepreneurial characteristics, aligning personal and professional aspirations with an entrepreneurial lifestyle, evaluating the feasibility of their ideas, and understanding the risks associated with starting a business. Additionally, the course helps students understand the skills to create a personal vision statement, integrating design and innovative thinking principles. This holistic approach will help students develop the skills required to identify and evaluate business opportunities and craft a life plan that aligns with their passions and strengths, going beyond conventional career paths.

 

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Define entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial mindset.
  2. Identify entrepreneurial concepts, challenges, and risks.
  3. Discover entrepreneurship opportunities through a small, family-owned, skilled trade, professional services, home-based, high-tech, or independent business.
  4. Understand the merit, opportunity, and risk of scaling.
  5. Learn best practices through the successes and failures of entrepreneurs.
  6. Understand the principles of design thinking and innovative thinking.
  7. Assess their strengths, passions, and aspirations to identify possible entrepreneurial paths.
