PAET 122 - Precision Agriculture GPS/GIS CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 CREDIT HOURS MAX: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LECTURE HOURS MAX: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MAX: 2 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 64 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MAX: 64 Fundamental processes of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) with application to agriculture are presented. An in-depth review of guidance equipment, communication protocols, and sources of error within systems. The courses also focuses on file formats, database management, spatial analysis, and manipulation of data. Georeferenced data from mapping and yield monitoring will be analyzed.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the application uses a Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Outline the different types of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) systems.
- Explain the special Geographic Information Systems (GIS) considerations of precision agriculture data and processing, such as encoding and import/export.
- Develop and manipulate a database.
- Demonstrate competency in Global Positioning Systems (GPS) constellation and signal frequency.
- Review types of communication protocols used in satellite to receiver communication.
- Describe the level of accuracy necessary for different satellite navigation-controlled guidance systems.
- Analyze Real Time Kinematic (RTK), Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS), and virtual reference stations.
