Continuation of principles, procedures and clinicopathologic correlations in routine chemical analysis of the blood and other body fluids. Provides laboratory experiences in basic methods, selected to develop routine analytical abilities and to promote the ability to recognize sources of error.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course, the student will be expected to:
- Assess and interpret quality control data to identify patterns, trends, and irregularities, which requires analytical skills.
- Analyze trends in instrumentation and technology which involves assessing and judging the significance and implications of these trends.
- Perform routine maintenance and chemical analyses on instrumentation.
- Explain the principles that requires understanding the concepts and linking them to clinical abnormalities with deeper analysis.
- The preparation and use of reagents which involves applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
- Performing accurate analyses which involves the application of knowledge and skills, while evaluating the results which requires a higher level of judgment and assessment.
- Performing specific test procedures involving the application of knowledge and skills in using different methods and technologies.
