This course discusses clinically relevant large animal diseases, disease processes, and obstetric procedures. This course covers the causes, pathogenesis, clinical signs, and treatment and prevention of each disease. In addition, this course also discusses nutritional requirements for companion animals in all life stages.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
1. Describe the causes, pathogenesis, clinical signs, treatment and prevention of clinically relevant large animal diseases and obstetric procedures.
2. Describe common zoonotic diseases of large animals as they apply to animal health and public safety.
3. Communicate the information that a client or owner would need in the event that an animal was diagnosed with a specific disease.
4. Discuss biosecurity and isolation procedures necessary in livestock operations.
5. Discuss energy and nutrient requirements for various life stages of companion animals and list substances that, when ingested, result in toxicity
