AUTI 231 - Racing Chassis Systems PREREQUISITES: AUTI 121 & AUTI 122 CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 CREDIT HOURS MAX: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 4 This course covers all forms of suspension systems and braking systems used on automotive racing vehicles. Students should have a basic knowledge of alignment angles and procedures and be familiar with suspension and braking components. The effects of suspension geometry, chassis setup, and braking system set up will be stressed. The course will cover many types of racing suspension and braking systems found on drag racing, circle track, road course, off road race cars and street rods.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Explore various suspension systems.
- Perform tasks related to spring, torsion bar and air bag rates as related to suspension and chassis control
- Evaluate the ability to use computer software to analyze the geometry of a suspension system.
- Perform tasks related to various suspensions system adjustments to maximize vehicle performance.
- Explore Shock Absorbers (Dampers) and the function they perform.
- Show proficiency in the use of scales to adjust weight bias of a vehicle.
- Explore on track diagnosis and correction of handling problems.
- Perform tasks related to Pascal’s Law
- Analyze braking system components
- Analyze the different friction materials used in racing braking systems
