This course provides students with an overview of study strategies, expectations, and career opportunities in the public service fields of the military, law enforcement, and fire science. Students will have the opportunity to set goals, learn about professional conduct, work as a team, and participate in experiential learning.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrate self-awareness and personal responsibility through reflection.
- Demonstrate computer literacy skills, basic computer functions, and digital communication etiquette.
- Develop effective application of study skills and time management strategies.
- Discuss career options, set career goals, and explore the diverse environment and cultural dynamics of public service careers.
- Discuss the interrelatedness of stress, nutrition, exercise, and physical stamina for a public service career path.
- Apply principles of emotional intelligence and appropriately use soft skills such as teamwork and communication.
- Examine ethical considerations and professional conduct in public service fields such as military, law enforcement, and fire science.
- Participate in four hours of experiential learning that introduces the necessary skills for public service.
