MTTC 222 - CAD/CAM III PREREQUISITES: MTTC 221 or Program Chair Approval CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 64 This course introduces students to advanced CNC programming techniques using industry-standard CAD/CAM software for multi-axis machining applications. Students will develop part geometries from scratch or import existing models to generate toolpaths for 4-axis and 5-axis CNC mills as well as CNC lathes with live tooling.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Create and edit complex 3D part models.
- Explain machine kinematics and work holding considerations for multi-axis setups.
- Generate multi-axis toolpaths for CNC milling machines.
- Generate toolpaths for CNC lathes equipped with live tooling.
- Verify toolpaths using simulation tools.
- Perform post processing to generate CNC code specific to a machine.
