NETI 124 - CompTIA Network+ to CCNA Bridge Course

PREREQUISITES: NETI 104 - Introduction to Networking, or current CompTIA Network+ Certification, or Program Chair Approval.
CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3
LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1.5
LAB HOURS MIN: 3
TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 72
This course is designed for students with a foundational, vendor-neutral understanding of networking who wish to pursue the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) curriculum after completing the CompTIA Network+ associated curriculum. The course bridges the gap between networking theory and applied, hands-on skills in a Cisco environment. It covers the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in small- to medium-sized networks. Students will learn how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality, including VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, STP, and EtherChannel. The course also introduces wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts. Students will develop skills to configure, secure, and troubleshoot routers and switches, and resolve common issues with protocols in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Explain how Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols support network operations and reliability.
  2. Configure routers and switches with basic security to establish end-to-end connectivity using static routing.
  3. Configure advanced switching features, including VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, and redundancy protocols.
  4. Configure secure access for both wired and wireless local area networks.
  5. Configure dynamic address allocation in IPv6 networks.
  6. Debug common connectivity issues in a switched and routed network.
  7. Verify network connectivity between devices using IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes.
