ASEP 121 - GM ASEP Braking Systems PREREQUISITES: ASEP 100 Introduction to GM ASEP program. CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 64
This course is the first of two on GM braking systems for modern passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Students study the theory, service, and repair of hydraulic service brake systems and electronic parking brake (EPB) systems, using precision measuring instruments and GM-specific tools and equipment. The course also examines system design and operation across common GM configurations. Required GM Center of Learning modules continue in this course, and students build readiness for related ASE certification exams.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while in the labs.
- Use and identify tools used to repair brake systems.
- Explain friction principles and Newton’s laws of Motion.
- Identify and explain operation of braking system components including hydraulic control devices.
- Perform Disc Brake Inspection and recommend necessary repairs.
- Perform Drum Brake Inspection and recommend necessary repairs.
- Adjust parking brakes.
- Demonstrate resurfacing of drums and rotors including on-car brake lathes.
