ASEP 142 - GM ASEP Climate Control Systems

In this course, students learn diagnostic, service, and repair techniques for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in modern GM passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Instruction emphasizes the proper use of precision measuring tools and GM-specific equipment for system evaluation and repair. Students study the theory and operation of A/C compressor designs and examine under-dash heating and ventilation systems, applying procedures for inspection, troubleshooting, and component replacement. Throughout the course, students complete required modules in GM’s Center of Learning (service technician online training) and conclude by taking the nationally recognized ASE A7 Heating and Air Conditioning certification exam.



MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

  1. Demonstrate proper handling of refrigerants.
  2. Identify tools and equipment used in climate control systems. 
  3. Identify all components of the heating and air conditioning system.
  4. Explain the purpose and function of the heating and air conditioning systems. 
  5. Explain refrigeration theory. 
  6. Diagnose service and repair heating and air conditioning components. 
  7. Recover and recycle refrigerants using approved equipment. 
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of automatic climate control systems. 
  9. Diagnose automatic and manual climate control systems.
  10. Explain hybrid climate control system operation.
