ASEP 243 - GM ASEP Electrical Systems III PREREQUISITES: ASEP 123 GM ASEP Electrical II CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 64 In this third course of a three-course sequence, students continue their study of electrical accessories and passenger safety systems on modern GM passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Emphasis is placed on the safe use of diagnostic equipment and tools for advanced electrical troubleshooting and repair. Throughout the course, students complete required modules in GM’s Center of Learning (service technician online training) and culminate the sequence by taking the ASE A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems certification exam.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Explain and diagnose advanced automotive systems and networks.
- Utilize scan tools, lab scopes, and other electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Diagnose body computer systems.
- Diagnose advanced active and passive restraint systems.
- Diagnose audio systems.
- Diagnose theft deterrent systems.
- Identify communication bus systems utilizing waveforms.
- Diagnose and repair communication BUS faults.
- Diagnose LIN, CAN, AVC LAN, BEAN networks.
- Explain Bluetooth operation
- Explain vehicle navigation system operation
