PREREQUISITES: ASEP 125 GM ASEP Driveline Mechanical Theory and Repair
CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3
LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2
LAB HOURS MIN: 2
TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 64
In this second course of a two-part sequence, students continue their study of the diagnosis, service, and repair of modern GM automatic and manual drivelines, including longitudinally and transversely mounted transmissions. Instruction covers mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic control systems, with emphasis on the proper use of precision measuring tools and GM-specific service equipment. Throughout the course, students complete required modules in GM’s Center of Learning (service technician online training) and culminate the sequence by taking the nationally recognized ASE A2 (Automatic Transmission/Transaxle) and ASE A3 (Manual Drive Train & Axles) certification exams.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Demonstrate safe shop practices and work habits while working with driveline equipment and lifts.

  • Demonstrate usage of tools for driveline diagnosis and repair.

  • Explain how small variations in GM components can affect driveline balance.

  • Advanced GM driveline diagnosis strategies.

  • Repair GM late model transmission/driveline components.

  • Diagnose NVH and other Driveline issues on GM vehicles.

  • Exploring the GM MDI scan tool diagnosis protocol.
