ASEP 162 - GM ASEP Light Duty Diesel Engine Performance

In this second course of a two-part sequence, students advance their study of mechanical theory and perform in-depth diagnosis, service, and repair on modern GM light-duty diesel engines used in passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Emphasis is placed on the correct use of precision measuring tools and GM-specific service equipment to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical subsystems. Throughout the course, students complete required modules in GM’s Center of Learning (service technician online training) and culminate the sequence by taking the nationally recognized ASE A9 Light Vehicle Diesel Engines certification exam.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while servicing engines.
- Identify light duty diesel engine operational systems
- Diagnosis light duty diesel engine performance issues
- Evaluate light duty diesel engine injection systems
- Identify service procedures for coolant and fuel heaters.
- Perform preventative maintenance to the fuel system
- Identify and/or perform injector replacement procedures.
- Identify high pressure fuel system components.
- Perform turbocharger system testing and component replacement
- Perform scan tool diagnosis on light duty diesel applications
