ASEP 260 - GM ASEP Advanced Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Technologies

In this second course of a two-course sequence, students advance their study of GM hybrid and electric vehicles, including diagnosis, service, and repair of longitudinally and transversely mounted hybrid and electric drive motors. Instruction emphasizes the proper use of precision measuring instruments and GM-specific tools to diagnose, service, and repair the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of hybrid and electric drivetrains on modern GM passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. Throughout the course, students complete required modules in GM’s Center of Learning (service technician online training) and conclude by taking the ASE Hybrid/Electric Vehicle certification exam.



MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

  1. Discuss and demonstrate personal and ship safety procedures.
  2. Define electrical circuit terminology, symbols, components and schematics used in HEV as well as PHEV electrical/electronic systems.
  3. Perform voltage, current resistance and insulation tests using proper procedures and test equipment.
  4. Identify tools and test equipment used in the servicing of EV, HEV and PHEV’s.
  5. Describe vehicle safety systems including disconnect; interlock loops, and GFI protection.
  6. Inspect service and diagnose hybrid Powertrain systems.
  7. Inspect service and diagnose hybrid engine, inverter/converter and battery management system temperature control systems.
  8. Identify components, procedures and processes used to install PHEV conversion systems to manufacture specifications.
