ADMF 106 - Supervision and Teams at Work PROGRAM: Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
Introduces basic employee development with emphasis on the responsibilities of a newly-appointed supervisor. Emphasizes organizational structure, motivation, delegation of authority, interviews, orientation and induction of new employees, employee performance evaluations and dealing with employee conflict.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Define the role and responsibilities of a supervisor. [f]
- Describe the essential concepts of effective leadership skills. [e,f]
- Explain the various supervisory management styles. [d,f]
- Explain the importance of the communication process to positive employee relations. [d,f]
- Describe the planning function as it relates to necessary skills and techniques involved in tactical and strategic planning as well as effective time management. [e,f]
- Identify and apply the concepts of relationship building and conflict management. [d,e,f]
- Discuss the supervisory manager’s role in leading change in the manufacturing workplace. [f]
- Explain the characteristics of effective teams and work groups. [d,e,f]
- Incorporate appropriate technology to support and enhance oral presentations. [f]
- Describe the methods of selection, orientation, training, performance appraisals, promotion, and compensation of new and existing employees. [f]
- Explain equal employment opportunity, diversity and management of legally protected employees. [h]
- Discuss the role of complaints, grievances, and labor unions in regards to supervisory activities. [e,f]
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b, e]
- Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
