Agriculture has high rates of fatalities and serious injuries and ranks among the most dangerous professions in the United States. Educating personnel to operate machinery safely and use protective equipment correctly can help reduce the high number of accidents and lower risk liability. This course presents an overview of safety principles as applied to production agriculture.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

Describe and interpret the fundamentals of safety and health as applied to production agriculture.
Demonstrate and promote appropriate safety and health standards to advance production agriculture.
Create a safety minded culture while servicing, maintaining, and operating equipment in order to meet regulations and prevent hazards.
Analyze factors that minimize lost income due to agricultural accidents.
Utilize and maintain personal, general, and specific safety equipment related to agriculture.
Research and demonstrate appropriate use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
