AGRI 236 - Companion Animal Management PROGRAM: Agriculture CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the companion animal industry. This will include types of companion animals, their physiology in health and disease, nutrition, care, and jobs working with companion animals including biomedical research.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Discuss factors to consider when selecting a companion animal.
- Specify common companion animal parasites/pests and apply prevention and treatment options.
- Recognize common cat and dog breeds and annotate specific breed characteristics.
- Discuss and define the skills necessary to aid in starting a companion animal business.
- Discuss proper companion animal care, management, and health.
