A critical thinking and studio course that explores the various dyeing, stitching and surface design techniques used in fabric design and its application in the realm of two-dimensional fine arts. Critical thinking, problem-solving and manual techniques will be emphasized equally.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Discuss and understand the difference between dyes and pigments.
- Use multiple levels of tools and materials to design, print and manipulate fabrics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of historical and/or cultural significance of fabric.
- Create a sample set of fabric swatches for future reference.
- Apply advanced elements and principles of design.
- Apply complex and advanced creative and visual problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate descriptive and analytical skills in thinking and writing.
- Generate ideas using notes and thumbnails.
- Explore historical and contemporary relationships and content in regards to fabric art and design.
