Introduces the basic skills and technology of the production of wood products and focuses on machinery set-up and operations for making moldings, door frames and picture frames.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Define millwork technology.
- Define employment opportunities in the millwork industry.
- Demonstrate skill in identification, design, and construction of woodworking joints common to the trade.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the set-up and operation of machines.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the designing and production of various types of moldings.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the proper selection and installation of fasteners and hardware common to the trade.
- Demonstrate skills in designing and in constructing various assigned projects.
- Think critically and independently analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information.
- Identify and interpret health, safety, and welfare standards as dictated by local, state or federal agencies.
