Develops knowledge and skills in the technology of refinishing and repairing furniture. Introduces procedures used in stripping, bleaching, caning, veneering and wood fillers.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the evaluation process of furniture to be refinished.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in stripping old finishes.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in repairing and preparing furniture for new finish.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in applying bleach and fillers.
- Define and demonstrate proper methods of veneering.
- Define and demonstrate proper methods and procedures of caning.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the proper selection of materials.
- Think critically and independently analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information.
- Identify and interpret health, safety, and welfare standards as dictated by local, state or federal agencies.
