An introduction to the fundamentals of investing. Presents the basis of investing, with attention to the various ways in which investment vehicles operate.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Explain the mechanics of investing in securities.
- Explain and apply financial ratios.
- Define the role of financial intermediaries.
- Describe the issuance and selling of new securities.
- Explain the concept of risk.
- Enumerate sources of investment information.
- Differentiate between fixed and variable income securities.
- Differentiate between equity and debt security.
- Analyze a simple financial statement.
- List market indicators.
- Explain the mechanics of investment in commodity futures, collectibles and precious metals.
- Define the component parts of real estate investment.
