Introduction and overview of fundamental concepts of effective leadership in formal organizations.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Describe and demonstrate knowledge of the various theories of leadership through critical thinking.
- Identify and describe the traits and interpersonal skills generally associated with effective leaders.
- Describe the requirements of successful change leadership.
- Describe the challenges of leading diverse groups of people.
- Describe the importance of strategic leadership to the modern organization.
- Describe the major motivational theories.
- Explain the differences between transactional and transformational leadership.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Describe the different types of groups and teams that are commonly used in organizations and the implications of leadership.
