Introduction and overview of fundamental concepts of effective leadership in formal organizations.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

Describe and demonstrate knowledge of the various theories of leadership through critical thinking.
Identify and describe the traits and interpersonal skills generally associated with effective leaders.
Describe the requirements of successful change leadership.
Describe the challenges of leading diverse groups of people.
Describe the importance of strategic leadership to the modern organization.
Describe the major motivational theories.
Explain the differences between transactional and transformational leadership.
Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
Describe the different types of groups and teams that are commonly used in organizations and the implications of leadership.
