CATX 201 - Physical Principles and Quality Control II

PREREQUISITES: Program Chair Approval
PROGRAM: Medical Imaging
CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3
LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3
DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2021

This class is a continuation of CATX 101 - Physical Principlesclinical Applicationsand Quality Control I  . This class will discuss advances in spiral CT and 3D CT and the impact on adults and pediatrics patients. This class will discuss contrast media administration, adverse reaction and post-procedures treatment and documentation. Students will learn the different methods of injection techniques and patient interaction and management. Provides in-depth details on radiation dose and quality control standards. It will also discuss continuous Imaging of Real-Time CT, virtual CT, treatment planning, and Fluoroscopy and pediatric CT.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Analyze the image quality, image artifacts, and noise reduction.
  2. Apply patient dose and radiation protection in CT
  3. Demonstrate proper procedures of patient interaction, safety, and management.
  4. Contrast administration, adverse reaction, and post-procedure care.
  5. Critique injection technique, administration route, and dose based on protocol.
  6. Discuss advances in CT and 3D CT and impacts on patients.
