Covers basic principles and applications for planning and controlling production operations and improvement programs. Includes system characteristics and solutions for production process and service operation problems; methods analysis; cost estimating; facilities planning, tooling and services acquisition and maintenance; production, project and program scheduling; materials and inventory management; safety and loss prevention; decision-making tools and evaluation of alternatives.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Review and integrate with this course material, the knowledge, skills, and attitudes acquired in prior and concurrent studies which are basic in the field of production of goods and services.
  2. Apply skills in concepts and techniques for planning for production and service operations and for improvement programs in diversified organizations.
  3. Develop and apply the skills required to analyze the methods for effectively performing tasks in the workplace.
  4. Evaluate alternative methods for the production of products or services to meet economic or production criteria.
  5. Apply work measurement techniques in present or proposed tasks, as well as measuring human performance and machine systems against acceptable standards.
  6. Demonstrate skills in problem solving techniques relating to the management of manpower and equipment, and provide practice in decision making for input, processing and output variables in manufacturing operations under rapidly changing conditions.
