COMM 280 - CO-OP/Internship PREREQUISITES: Program Chair Approval PROGRAM: Communication CREDIT HOURS MIN: 1 CREDIT HOURS MAX: 6 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MIN: 5 TOTAL CONTACT HOURS MAX: 30 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2018
Provides students with the opportunity to work in an occupational setting that is related to career objectives within the communications field. Provides the student with on-the-job training and requisite technical skills while earning credit toward an associate degree.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Discuss and demonstrate how concepts and skills learned in the classroom apply to the workplace.
- Demonstrate the importance of effective written and oral communication skills.
- Identify and apply requisite skills needed in the fulfillment of a job assignment.
- Compare and contrast the student’s expectations of the internship and actual experience derived.
- Summarize the knowledge, skills and experience gained on the internship to apply these to the next job obtained by the student.
- Learn how to adapt to the work environment as appropriate.
- Prepare a professional report, research assignment, or portfolio of media projects documenting the co-op/internship experience.
