CONT 279 - Construction Technology Capstone PREREQUISITES: Program Advisor Approval PROGRAM: Construction Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 1 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2013
Prepare the student for entry into construction. The course reviews the Construction Technology core courses. It provides a comprehensive evaluation of the level of proficiency of these courses.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Assist in identifying the career paths available to those with the program degree.
- Review history of building construction to present-day applications.
- Demonstrate the safe operation and maintenance various construction tools including the builder’s level and transit.
- Demonstrate skill in identifying building materials commonly used in modern building construction.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of working drawings and applications from the print to the work.
- Know basic electrical concepts including: AC and DC circuits, power, inductance, capacitance, transformers, and metering equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the estimating process for residential construction, which includes blueprints and specifications, estimating labor costs, materials take-off and pricing.
- Review integrated computer technology, decision-making and problem-solving skills by using multimedia technology and peripherals. This includes software and computer programs and their applications.
- Effectively prepare for an interview including resume preparation, effective behavior during the interview, and how to answer questions in an interview.
- Take required outcomes assessment tests.
