Examines the role of law enforcement in traffic safety, traffic administration, traffic laws, accident investigation, police safety, and patrol practices.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Discuss the major causes of traffic collisions.
- Discuss traffic control in emergency situations.
- Detect problems with vehicle operation, both mechanical and operator.
- Discuss the driver’s license point system and the quota system.
- Identify emergency needs at accident scenes and implement proper procedures quickly.
- List specific rules that an officer should observe each time a vehicle is stopped.
- Discuss the rules and procedures of searching a suspect on a traffic stop.
- Discuss certain circumstances under which high-speed pursuits may be justified.
- List and discuss DUI indicators.
- Demonstrate common procedures involved in traffic accident investigation.
