CRIM 212 - Use of Force

Provides hands on training in use of various forms of force in the performance of police duties in the field. Students will receive instruction in the use of physical force, use of chemical agents, use of firearms, defensive tactics, and working with police dogs. Students will also receive live firearms operation instruction and live-fire qualification testing.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Evaluate conditions and circumstances under which physical force should be used.
- Demonstrate the proper use of chemical agents to control subjects.
- Demonstrate defensive tactics when engaging subjects, e.g. armed individuals, aggressive subjects, etc.
- Describe the use and value of police dogs in law enforcement.
- Pass the physical assessment examination.
- Understand the importance of proper nutrition to maintain conditioning necessary to carry out police work.
- Demonstrate the safe use of firearms e.g. service revolvers, shotguns, rifles, etc.
- Qualify with service revolver, shotgun, and rifle on firing range at the marksman level.
