This course introduces students to an examination of terrorism and America’s criminal justice system, with special emphasis on policing’s investigative response. Organizational preparedness and response by America’s criminal justice system to this global threat.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Understand the history of terrorism in the United States.
- Comprehend a global assessment of contemporary terrorism.
- Be aware of the prospects for terrorism in the Twenty-First Century.
- Articulate the real threats and irrational fears related to terrorism.
- Explain the relationship of the rule of law and homeland security.
- Identify the organizational entities responsible for homeland security.
- Describe the intelligence function in defending the United States against terrorism.
- Develop and demonstrate knowledge of both reactive and proactive counter-terrorism measures.
- Interpret the example of aviation security as a model of terrorism defense.
- Analyze the terrorism defense role of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
- Explain the complex calculations of “costs” of freedom and the war on terrorism.
