DENT 171 - Dental Terminology PROGRAM: Dental Assisting CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2018
This is an in-depth course that focuses on basic terminology required of the dental assisting professional and provides a basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology, special procedures, laboratory procedures, and pharmacology. Dental vocabulary foundation increases through study and application of medical terminology word elements.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate use of a dental dictionary.
- Properly use prefixes and suffixes with word roots/ combining forms to build medical/dental terms.
- Define dental terms.
- Define and use dental abbreviations, signs, and symbols accurately.
- Define and correlate common diseases and conditions to appropriate procedures, treatments and diagnostic tests.
- Identify and correct misspelled dental terms.
- Spell dental words correctly after hearing pronunciation.
- Correctly enunciate dental terms.
