EDSN 115 - Basic CAD for Environmental Designers PREREQUISITES: EDSN 107 - Design and Construction Graphics PROGRAM: Environmental Design CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2019
Introduces fundamentals of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) for environmental designers. Includes overview of CAD systems, use of software, and printer/plotter applications.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify CAD hardware and software.
- Review the basic commands for file handling, formatting, and editing.
- Demonstrate the ability to use the main drawing and editing commands to create architectural working drawings.
- Demonstrate ability to create site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, and detail drawings with the following layers:
- Furniture, fixtures and equipment layout,
- Reflected ceiling/lighting plan,
- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC plans,
- Dimensioning and labeling
- Demonstrate proper layer management utilizing paper space to create a set of complete drawings.
- Establish text styles and dimension styles.
- Utilize manufacturer’s reference/block libraries and demonstrate their use in architectural exterior and interior drawings.
- Create a library of furniture/elements
- Create symbols to be used in a symbols library
