EDSN 215 - Architectural Design and Rendering


PREREQUISITES: EDSN 107 - Design and Construction Graphics .

Reviews the fundamentals of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) for environmental designers. Includes overview of advanced architectural CAD systems and use of 3-D and rendering software.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Identify 3-D hardware and software currently utilized in industry.
  2. Identify digital rendering hardware and software.
  3. Review the fundamental commands for 3-D drawing and digital rendering.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to implement commands and to create architectural 3-D drawings.
  5. Import CAD drawings into 3-D rendering software.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to create the following:
    1. CAD generated architectural floor plan
    2. Architectural elevations, sections, and detail drawings
    3. Three-dimensional environmental drawing
    4. Computer generated renderings
    5. Virtual walkthrough of the environmental space
  7. Demonstrate proper layer management utilizing paper space to create a set of complete drawings.
  8. Utilize manufacturer’s reference/block libraries and demonstrate their use in architectural and environmental drawings.
    1. Create a library of Furniture/elements
    2. Create 3-D symbols to be used in a symbols library
