EECT 209 - Industrial Computer Controls I PREREQUISITES: EECT 101 - Introduction to Electronics and Projects or EECT 111 - Introduction to Circuit Analysis PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITE: EECT 112 - Digital Fundamentals .
PROGRAM: Electronics and Computer Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
An introduction to the field of industrial controls as it relates to computer control systems, process control and industrial networking. Covers the principles of control systems as applied to a production system to achieve automation. PLC’s will be covered as the mainstay of industrial computer control. Troubleshooting of production control systems are covered.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to be proficient in the following skills:
- Identify the functional components of a digital control system.
- Write flowchart of a digital industrial control system.
- Identify the components of a digital AC control system.
- Write and develop a program for an AC control system.
- Define PLC using the NEMA definition of a PLC.
- Identify an assortment of input and output modules (digital and analog).
- Troubleshoot by using built-in software diagnostics (edit the PLC and demonstrate the operation of several software functions.)
- Troubleshoot by using standard hardware testing methods (multimeters and Scopes)
- Write software programs using standard ladder logic.
- Program a PLC to solve a variety of application problems.
- Diagnose problems placed by the instructor in PLC-based control applications.
- Build a process control system using a standard PC.
- Compare and demonstrate open loop feedback using a PC or a PLC.
- Identify the components of an industrial networking system.
