An in-depth study of the grammatical structures of American English. A course designed to acquaint students with descriptions of modern English syntax.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify sentence patterns of English.
- Generate the sentence patterns.
- Transform basic sentence patterns into diverse conversions including interrogative, negative, and passive forms.
- Transform basic sentences into effective expansions, understanding how punctuation rules grow from these expansions.
- Refine diverse sentence structures, observing and evaluating sentences for parallel structure, point of view, grammar, and appropriate word choice.
